Brave Train Employee Receives Life-Threatening Injuries Amid Multiple Knife Incident on Express Train

A brave train staff member who intervened to save passengers during a multiple stabbing incident on a express train has sustained critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

CCTV footage reportedly shows the employee trying to halt the assailant as the train traveled between Peterborough and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Bystanders recounted a frightening 14-minute duration after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied passengers running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in custody for interrogation. Authorities announced a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Reaction and Consequences

The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several individuals have now been discharged from medical care.

A bystander filmed the suspect brandishing a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he confronted police on the platform. He was reportedly heard shouting, "End my life, kill me."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – particularly the brave member of train personnel whose family are being assisted by specialist officers,” said a high-ranking law enforcement official.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Measures

Rail unions were swift to commend staff and demand increased measures. One union leader said he would be “requesting urgent meetings with government, train companies and law enforcement to ensure that we have the best possible support, resources and effective procedures in place”.

Another association representative encouraged the rail company and authorities “to move swiftly to review safety, to support the affected workers, and to ensure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Praised for Quick Thinking

The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been commended by association representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“The driver didn’t halt the train in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he continued traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” stated a association official.

Further Details

Authorities stated they received the first emergency reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described at first thinking if the situation was a holiday joke, but soon understood from individuals' expressions that it was serious.

Authorities have confirmed there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terror-related attack and have requested the community to provide with any additional details.

Rail services on the impacted line are expected to experience delays until the following day, with travelers advised to postpone their journeys where possible.
