Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
