Diving into an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous entertaining indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a character that is literally a turd attempting to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. Across one hundred fifty challenges, you'll face boss fights and access a shop to buy skins for your dung hero.
Plan your movements carefully, since one wrong move means starting over. Jump using floating orbs to propel your character to new heights, cross crumbling platforms, and activate buttons to open secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS for buying challenging levels as things gets crazy.
Visually, the game shows off eye-catching stages and a killer background music. The retro graphics with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though hard to recall previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, video games often included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme is present extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, including winning at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on Steam on November 19.
